F is for Flatulence (February 2021)

In February 2021 Stanford and I ran the 6th ABC for Yoga & Health webinar, F is for Flatulence.

We started off by introducing the topic of flatulence by discussing what it is and what is normal when it comes to flatulence. We addressed the social stigmas around farting and explored what flatulence might be trying to tell us.

We also covered... how gas is produced, problems associated with flatulence, investigating symptoms, social etiquette, impact of diet on flatulence, how the way we eat impacts flatulence, example case studies of flatulence, ways to reduce flatulence and much more.

“It was really refreshing to talk about flatulence without all the giggles and shame.” (anonymous)

"Flatulence is a necessary part of our body's natural release system. By releasing gas, we bring harmony to our bodies. Suppression causes an issue but too much gas is also a sign of a problem. For yoga, gas is a natural by-product that can be released from either end. In this webinar, we'll discuss how yoga views this process, how we can target our yoga practices and lifestyle to increase its efficiency and effectiveness, and how we might reduce the excess of unwanted by-products..." - Colin

"We all know that farting is a normal human function, but it is still one of the more embarrassing ones. Gases are ingested and produced from within us, but what makes the smell? And the sounds? The negative association with the deed makes it a problem even when it is not caused by an illness. What can we do about it? – Stanford
