E is for Exercise Webinar (January 2020)

In January 2021 Colin and Stanford ran the fifth ABC for Yoga & Health webinar.

E is for Exercise.

Here’s a summary Colin shared following the webinar and a short clip…

“We started off by covering what exercise is, in particular exploring the 5 categories yoga puts exercise into. We then moved onto why we exercise and how our exercise needs evolves over time and is different for everyone.

We also covered... How much is too much exercise. How much is too little exercise. Benefits of exercise. The relationship with the body. How the lockdowns have impacted people's exercise. Is yoga exercise? Is exercise yoga? And much more.”

Before the webinar, Stanford and Colin shared a few thoughts on Exercise…

"Yoga is often suggested as part of a fitness regime. It goes on the New Year's resolution list right next to taking up running or joining a gym. Yet amongst practitioners, to define yoga as just a physical activity is to grossly understate its depth and value. So where does yoga fit in relation to exercise? Where are the lines drawn between yoga as a method of staying fit and yoga as something more profound? Over the webinar I'll unpack questions such as: when does moving the body become yoga? If done separately, how does yoga aid physical movement? And what is yoga's view on exercise as part of a balanced life?' (Colin)

"The NHS and most health organisations recommend an average adult to have at least 2.5 hours of "moderate intensity" or 75 minutes of "vigorous intensity" activity per week. To add more variety to training, adults are encouraged to vary the duration and use a combination of different intensity exercises; thereby getting the most benefits from different styles of training. The difficulty here lies in fitting a realistic training schedule into our busy, working lives and finding the motivation to stick to it. We know any movement is better than no movement at all, but is more always better? What may be the harm of over-training and over-exercising? What is the real reason we need to exercise? And how do we find the motivation to do it?" (Stanford)

We're thrilled to be running these webinars for free for you, if you’d like to attend one in the future register here… https://www.trueyoga.co.uk/webinars
