G is for Gender Dysphoria

In March 2021 Stanford and I ran the 7th ABC for Yoga & Health webinar, G is for Gender Dysphoria.

We started off by exploring the difference between dysphoria and dysmorphia followed by broadly sharing how Western medicine and Yoga viewed gender dysphoria.

We also covered what contributes to some people experiencing gender dysphoria, labels, impact of society, how yoga helps people with any dysphoria, physiological changes, psychological changes and much more.

"The majority of yogic texts ask the question 'Who am I?' - Much of the basis of yoga and meditation is to do with unlocking how we perceive ourselves and how we perceive other people. Our goal is a comfortable coherence of perception and identity within ourselves and a stable interaction and relationship with others. Identity, having a purpose in life and success in relationships are at the heart of everyone's yoga journey. In this session, we are hoping to explore these three areas." – Colin

"Gender fluidity has been in the news and all-over social media in recent years, but what does it really mean? If we see it as not conforming to the societal norm on gender identity and sexuality, it begs the question, where did this 'norm' come from? The current respected view is moving away from the binary lens into a beautiful spectrum of different expressions. However, can we truly appreciate how uncomfortable and unsettling it is growing up not fully integrated into your assigned gender? We'll discuss these elements, the resources available and where the freedom in exploring our sexual identity lies." - Stanford

One of the attendees shared the following… “So interesting as always, thank you both very much indeed. Much love.”
