D is for Diet Webinar (December 2020)
In December 2020 Colin and Stanford ran the fourth ABC for Yoga & Health webinar.
D is for Diet.
Here’s a summary Colin shared following the webinar…
“At the start I introduced a framework as to how Yoga views diet, from there Stanford and I got into some really interesting discussions relating to food including...
Quick fix diets, food habits, psychology of food, hunger, feeling full, our relationship with food, celebrity diets, pre-digestion, digestion, post-digestion, food groups, diet evolution as we age, food awareness and the metabolising of food.
What came out of this is reinforcing that we're all different. There's no one diet that is best for everyone. Food has a relationship with us and we have a relationship with food. It's not simple, we are complicated.”
Before the webinar, Stanford and Colin shared a few thoughts on Diet…
"Diet is perhaps the favourite topic worldwide, if not the most talked about. Whether we’re posting pictures of our meals, creating diet plans, resisting temptation or cutting out XYZ, food is an obsession we all share. However, what aspect of food and diet are we considering? The taste? The nutrients? The ecological consideration? How do we decide if a diet is a good or bad one? And what is it that we’re really getting from our food?" (Stanford)
"To consider food and diet in yoga and āyurveda, there is an abundance of knowledge and guidance. Understanding the power of ingredients and how they affect individuals differently is a major part. However, it is not just about the food we eat but our ability to assimilate it - an unconscious ability that can be compromised by a number of things. In this webinar, we will challenge the old saying of ‘you are what you eat’ and discuss the many levels to our relationship with diet and food." (Colin)
